Traced: A 6/8 groove inspired by West African approaches to melody. Mirrored: Overdubbed clarinet and tenor sax piece that draws on ideas from classical composer Ligeti, especially the opening of his chamber concerto. Eye Of The Beholder: An unabashed romantic approach to the jazz ballad. Solo from Traced: Dan plays over a 6 bar groove in 6/8. Around Kyrie: Using Palestrina's Missa Brevis as a starting point, all of the lines are improvised by following the countrapuntal sway of the original. Solo from Into The Line: Two-chord setting with a background pedal voiced in sax and clarinets. Into The Line: This piece has very few chords, and is a linear exploration of some short cell-like themes. Synthesis: A presentation of all the musical ideas from the Traced Suite, set in odd-metres. Solo from Lost and Found: Soprano solo on typically Liebman/Bierach type chords! |
